I remember it still like it was yesterday…
After a solid five day trek into the Himalayas we finally arrived at our destination on the other side of the clouds. The scene that met me that morning was unlike any I could ever have imagined. The sun had barely begun to rise and the beasts were just beginning their day’s training when we reached the mountaintop temple. I knew that I was being honoured by being led to the temple but upon our arrival I was informed that I was to be presented with the extraordinary offering of riding one of the sacred beasts.
I remember the instant and almost overwhelming sense of fear I felt upon first meeting it, it was as if time stood still while its gaze pierced my deepest being and assessed my worthiness… These beasts appeared to have a sixth sense and legend has it that they devoured unworthy visitors to the temple… The beasts trainer sensed my fear too, and in his native tongue he remarked ‘fear not, it is we who are honoured by your presence’ as he offered me the reigns…
Needless to say, it was a day that made my years of effort seem all the more worthwhile and one that, to this very day, motivates me toward our cause…
